My Backyard Has a Mosquito Problem

My daughter had three mosquito bites on her ankles before I even got the Cliganic Mosquito Repellent Stickers out of the box. She’s a toddler, our backyard is a mosquito problem, and she fights every spray I own, so I was already losing before I started.

So I’m not going to tell you these erased anything. They don’t treat a bite. What they do is give me something I can put on her before she goes back out there, without chasing her around with a spray bottle.

And they smell super delicious. That part surprised me, because most mosquito repellent spray I’ve used smells like a garage.

She Wanted All of Them

Setup is peel and stick, and the hardest part was letting a toddler pick a design. I held the sheet out and asked which one she wanted. This one? That one? I guess she wants all of them.

So I chose for her. The bicycle. That’s the real reason these work on a kid who fights lotion: the mosquito repellent stickers look like reward stickers, so she didn’t fight me at all. No rubbing, no holding her still, no wiping her hands after.

Each patch comes individually wrapped, so one gets opened at a time and the other 79 stay sealed in the box. That matters more than it sounds when the pack is going to live in a diaper bag all summer.

Placement Matters More Than Coverage Area

A patch is not a force field, and I think that’s where the one-star reviews come from. This isn’t skin-applied repellent that coats you. It’s a scent-based layer, powered by plant-derived essential oils, that sits in one spot and works outward.

Which means placement does the heavy lifting. I stuck hers near where she’d already been bitten, and I said it out loud on camera: hopefully that works. If not, you can also do it anywhere on her arm, her legs. For a kid running around a yard, one patch on a shirt is thinner coverage than one on a sleeve plus one near the stroller.

The listing says up to 8 hours per patch, and “up to” is doing work there. On a hot, breezy afternoon I’d plan on swapping sooner rather than stretching one to the limit. With 80 in a box, swapping isn’t expensive in patch-count terms. Here’s the trade-off: DEET-free means gentler, and gentler usually means shorter. You’re picking a side.

Patio repellent devices protect a fixed perimeter, useful until your toddler sprints thirty feet into the grass to chase a dog. These go with her, which is the only kind of coverage that actually matters when the person you’re protecting refuses to stay put.

What Ownership Costs After the Box

Nothing. There’s no refill, no battery, no device. You peel a patch off the clothing when you come inside and throw it away, and the sticker went on a shirt rather than skin, so there’s no bath-time scrub involved either.

Storage is the one place I’d be careful. These are scent-driven, so I’d keep the box closed and out of a hot car. Heat and an opened wrapper are how a patch gets weak before you ever stick it on.

Buy the 80-Pack, Not a Sampler

Get the 80-count if you’re buying at all. A small pack sounds reasonable until you realize one outing with a toddler can eat two or three patches, and you want to be able to double up without rationing.

Worth knowing: these are selling a little slower lately. Amazon has them at #1,354 in Health & Household against a 90-day average of #893, which usually just means seasonality on a bug product, not a quality drop. Still, stock on seasonal items gets thin, so check the live listing.

And if you’re deciding between this and something you plug in, the prints decide it. A mosquito repellent indoor plug-in doesn’t come to the park with you. These do.

Pros

  • Cute prints my daughter wanted to wear, which killed the usual repellent fight
  • Smells super delicious instead of chemical
  • Peel and stick on clothing, no spray and no lotion on skin
  • 80 individually wrapped patches, so one opens and the rest stay fresh
  • DEET-free, powered by plant-derived essential oils

Cons

  • My toddler wanted every design and wouldn’t choose, so I had to pick for her
  • Does nothing for bites she already had, and she already had them
  • One patch covers one spot, so a running kid realistically needs more than one
  • “Up to 8 hours” is a ceiling, not a promise

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you stick these directly on skin?

They’re meant for clothing, hats, strollers and backpacks, not skin. That’s the whole point of the format. If you want skin coverage, a lotion or spray is the right tool and these are the backup layer.

Will the sticker leave residue on clothes?

Peel it off when you come inside and you’re fine. I wouldn’t leave one stuck through a wash cycle or overnight on a delicate fabric. Clothing, backpacks and stroller fabric are what the brand lists as intended surfaces.

Do these work for adults too, or just kids?

Both. The collection is sold for kids and adults, and the prints lean outdoorsy rather than babyish. Stick one on a hat brim or a backpack strap for hiking or fishing.

Are they good for travel and camping?

Yes, this is the format’s strongest use. They’re lightweight, individually wrapped, and there’s no liquid to deal with at airport security. Camping, picnics and day trips are exactly where I’d pack them.

Loses points on durability because one patch covers one spot for a limited window, and a toddler doesn’t stay in one spot. Skip these if you want full-body coverage from a single application, because that’s a lotion’s job. Expand the scent radius by 50% and the durability score jumps to 4.8.

If your kid has ever screamed through a sunscreen application, a peel-and-stick sticker she picks herself is going to go on without a fight. That alone is worth the price of 80 patches.
