E-far Silicone Cooking Utensils Set: 3 Years In, Only the Color Faded

After three years of my whole family cooking almost every day with this set, the only thing that changed was the color on the lighter pieces faded. Mine have lasted three-plus years with my whole family using them. The lighter pieces faded slightly from washing. That’s the only complaint. Buy.

Three Years In, One Thing Changed

The lighter pieces faded. That’s it. That’s the whole list of things that went wrong with the E-far Silicone Cooking Utensils Set after three-plus years of me and my whole family cooking with them almost every day.

The lighter-colored ones are obviously the ones we reach for the most, and every time we wash them they get a little bit lighter. I expected worse. I expected melted edges, split silicone, a wobbly handle, something. None of that. Look how well kept they look for years of use.

After three years they still sit in a crock on the counter without embarrassing themselves, no cracked heads, no blackened handles, no mystery staining. That matters because utensils that look rough get buried in a drawer, and utensils in a drawer mean you’re fishing around with a pan already smoking.

Silicone Head, Wood Handle, And Why That Combo Lasts

The silicone head + wood handle combo is why these lasted three-plus years without cracking, melting, or warping under daily family use. The heads are food-grade silicone rated to 446°F, so there’s no melting at the edge of a hot pan and nothing leaching into dinner. The handles are natural wood, which stays cool to the touch while the pan is screaming.

Compare that to a one-piece plastic set. The weak point on cheap utensils is always the thin neck where the head meets the handle, and heat is what kills it. Here, the heat never travels that far up.

The silicone heads are flexible enough that they won’t scratch nonstick or ceramic pans, and still firm enough to scrape residue out of a corner. That’s the balance I care about. A spatula too soft to scrape is just a decoration.

The set covers ten pieces: soup ladle, spatula turner, slotted turner, large spatula, pasta server, slotted spoon, solid spoon, round spatula, tongs, and a whisk. Having the right one in hand instead of improvising makes cooking a lot faster and a lot easier, which sounds small until you’re doing it seven nights a week.

How These Stack Up Against the Usual Options

Steel-core sets discolor and hold onto tomato smell; plastic-handle ones snap. This wood-handle set avoided both traps for three years. The all-in-one steel-core sets are heavier and fine, but they’re also the ones that discolor at the head and hold onto tomato sauce smell. The plastic-handle ones are the ones that snap.

Wood is lighter than steel and cooler to the touch than plastic, and after three years of daily use the handles on mine haven’t cracked, darkened, or developed that soft, fibrous fuzz that signals moisture damage. The catch is the dishwasher, skip ahead to that section before you decide.

One thing I track that you can’t see on the product page: the price on this set moves around a lot. Right now it’s sitting a little above where it’s been for the last three months, and it’s been considerably cheaper at points in the past. Worth clicking through to check the live number rather than assuming today is the deal.

Hand Washing Is Not Optional

Hand wash only, the wood handle splits in a dishwasher, but hand washing takes thirty seconds because the nonstick silicone coating means food slides right off. The wood handle is why. Silicone shrugs off a dishwasher, wood does not, and repeated hot cycles are what dry it out and split it over a few years.

The upside is that hand washing takes almost no effort here. The nonstick silicone coating means food slides off, so it’s a rinse and a quick pass, not a scrub. They’re so easy to clean that this never became a chore in my house.

Each handle has a hanging hole, so they can live on a rail or a hook instead of taking up a drawer. That’s also how they dry properly, which is the other half of keeping the wood happy.

The Fading Isn’t Damage

The lighter pieces fade from washing, but fading is cosmetic, mine shifted lighter and kept performing identically after three years. I think people see the color shift after a year and assume the silicone is breaking down. Mine shifted lighter and kept performing identically: same flex, same scrape, same heat handling, no stickiness, no smell.

If a perfectly uniform gray set is part of your kitchen aesthetic, know going in that the most-used pieces will drift a shade or two paler than the ones that sit in the holder. It’s cosmetic. It’s also the only thing I can hold against them.

Who Should Buy, Who Shouldn’t

Buy these if you cook most nights, own nonstick or ceramic pans, and you’re tired of replacing a utensil set every eighteen months. A whole family using one set daily for three-plus years is the test that matters, and these passed it.

Skip them if you’re a strict dishwasher-only household. The wood handle makes that a losing game, and you’d be better served by a one-piece silicone or stainless set. Also skip if you only need two or three tools, because ten pieces is a commitment to counter space.

Pros

  • Three-plus years of daily family use with no cracking, melting, or warping
  • So easy to clean, food slides right off the silicone
  • Wood handles stay cool during high-heat cooking
  • Looks amazing sitting out in the kitchen, still well kept after years
  • Ten pieces covers every job, which makes cooking a lot faster

Cons

  • The lighter-colored pieces get a little bit lighter every time we wash them
  • Hand wash only if you want the wood handles to survive
  • Price swings a lot, so buying on the wrong day costs you

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the silicone hold up to stovetop searing temperatures?

Yes, up to 446°F, which covers normal sautéing, stir-frying, and simmering. Leaving a utensil resting against the inside of a ripping-hot dry cast iron pan is pushing past that. Lift it out between stirs and you’re fine.

Can these go in a hot pan with oil without absorbing smells?

Food-grade silicone is odor resistant, and mine haven’t picked up a garlic or curry smell in three years. Cheaper silicone is where that problem usually shows up. The nonstick coating also means you need less oil in the first place.

Are replacement pieces sold separately?

No, this sells as a 10-piece set, not as individual tools. If you lose or burn one, you’re buying the whole set again. Not a dealbreaker given how long mine have lasted, but worth knowing.

Does this make a decent gift?

Yes, especially for a first apartment or a housewarming. Ten pieces covers a whole kitchen from day one, and the gray-and-wood look matches almost any counter. It’s a practical gift that doesn’t look cheap.

Half a star off for the fading on the light pieces and the hand-wash-only handles; everything else survived three-plus years of a whole family cooking daily. Dishwasher-only households will regret these, and so will anyone who only needs three tools. Dishwasher-safe handles would make it a five.
